At Laguna Nursery, you can buy plants, art, gifts, and attend lovely events like their Valentine's Cabaret. Call the nursery to see if they still have tickets. Happy Valentine's Day! BTW, on my HIP District Tour, we stroll through this nursery if it is open.

Thanks to Jorg Dubin, the artist of the 9/11 piece in Heisler Park, for talking with the girl scouts about "Semper Memento". Go see more of Jorg's work currently displayed at LCAD on Forest. He also has many public pieces displayed around town: "Viking Studio", "Quintet", "Canyon View", and "Trio".
When you come to Laguna Beach for a visit, you must stop at Ruby's Shake Shack at Crystal Cove. They serve hamburgers, fries and malts with a million dollar view!
Last night I was honored to take the 6th grade Laguna Beach Girl Scout troop on my Heisler Park walking tour. When we arrived at the 9/11 memorial piece, none other than Jorg Dubin himself was there to talk to the girls about his famous work called, "Semper Momento". He told us when the two World Trade Center beams arrived in Laguna Beach, they had an American flag draped over them. Jorg buried that flag under his artwork right there in Heisler Park.
Depending on the time of day and the interest of my tour group, we may stop into a few boutiques on my walking tours. This weekend we stopped into Madison Square Café and found these fun magnifying glasses. They are only $24 and one of the many unique items in the store attached to this highly regarded restaurant in town.
Driving through Laguna Beach, you might think you will see some famous celebrity, athlete, artist or surfer? Well, yesterday I was driving and saw this motorcyclist with a skeleton on the back, wearing a long black wig and Santa hat. What you don't see was this skeleton was holding a beer can and I'm not even going to describe the rated X front of this skeleton. You never know what you will see in Laguna Beach!
Watching this 20 second video of an up and coming Laguna Beach athlete doing a flip throw in to my daughter for a goal, reminds me there are lots of famous Laguna Beach athletes:
- 2014 Olympic ice skater Ashley Wagner - 2000 Olympic gold metal winner in beach volleyball, Dain Blanton - 2012 Olympic gold metal winner in water polo, Annika Dries - 1996 Olympic gold metal winner in tennis, Lindsay Davenport - 1988 and 1992 Olympic gold metal winner in swimming, Janet Evans Congratulations to Kavita Reddy, the owner of Buy Hand. She just won the Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce award for "Best Retail Store". She has one-of-a-kind treasures and gifts made by locals. My favorite items are her Laguna festival wine charms. We stop by this store on my Hip District walking tour.
While most of the country is having record precipitation, our governor, Jerry Brown, is asking us to only flush our toilets when necessary. If you want to learn more ways you can conserve this precious resource, go to Laguna Beach Water District website (www.lbcwd.org). There they talk about programs and rebates, waterwise gardens, and water conservation.
The Cliff Restaurant in Laguna Beach has some amazing views of the Pacific Ocean. They also have happy hours, live music on the weekends, and are next to some art studios and shops for browsing after you eat. Google "The Cliff Restaurant Laguna Beach" for more information.
