DOWNTOWN ADVENTURE HUNT


Start and Finish: Glenneyre Parking Lot 6 at 501 Glenneyre St. 
Time: 1 hour 
Length: 1.5 miles (some stairs, slight hills and crossing busy streets (use cross walks, watch for distracted drivers, make eye contact before crossing)
Map: Download and print the map and bring with you. Follow the numbers and pictures on your smart phone during your walk to help as a guide.
Questionnaire: Download and print the questionnaire and bring with you. Ask your child to try and find each site then ask them the question to answer. Use the pictures below for a visual reference.
Notes: This Hunt is geared for kids 7+ and must be accompanied by an adult to help cross busy streets. Site #16 is the Visitor's Center which is open 10am-5pm daily, so it's best to go during those times for your free postcard. At the end of the Hunt in Pepper Tree Lane are places to eat and drink before you head back to the parking lot 6.




1. PARKING LOT 6 - 501 GLENNEYRE ST
This is a two story parking lot. If you do not have a Laguna Beach parking sticker, you will need to go to the pay station and pay for parking.

2. "FIVE FROG BENCH"
​425 S. Coast Hwy
In Laguna Beach, we don't have just ordinary benches, we have local artist-designed benches. This one in front of Hotel Laguna is from John Alabaster. He created this is 2004 and says, "My primary goal is to make art. I want to convey the nuance and mystery of art that compels and engages the residents and visitors to our city."

3. GREETER STATUE
329 S. Coast Hwy
E
iler Larsen was born in Denmark in 1890, and when he was 52 years old, he settled in Laguna Beach. From the 1940s to the early 70s he would stand on the street corner and wave and say hello to everyone who passed by. The other stature of him is in front of Sapphire Restaurant in the HIP District part of town. There is also a street named after him near the Laguna Beach Public Library.

​BONUS FIND
Look on the sidewalk about 30 feet towards Main Beach (North) and you will find Eiler Larsen's footprints.

4. MAIN BEACH PLAYGROUND
Remodeled in 2013, this playground is modeled after the real Lifeguard Tower and teaches kids about proper tide pool etiquette and what you can find in our local tide pools.

5. LIFEGUARD TOWER
Laguna's most photographed landmark, this structure was built in the 1920s and was initially used as an office for a gas station. In the 1930s, the lifeguards took it over and moved it across PCH to where it stands now. The top floor is used for observation, the ground floor has first aid and rescue equipment, and the dug-out basement is surfboard storage.

6. "GRACE" MURAL 
On the wall, near the bathrooms and the Lifeguard Headquarters, this mural by Terry Thornsley, includes two figures rowing a dory in churning seas. It lights up at night utilizing LED lighting.

7. "SEA BREEZE" 

Quoting the artist, Sukhdev Dail, describing his 7 foot tall bronze sculpture: "The sculpture encapsulates mother nature, the qualities of knowledge, creativity and freedom, uniting the human figure with abstraction of invisible wind. She is active and full of joy, she is a siren of the sea, conquer of wind, she is the queen of the sea shore."

8. BIRD ROCK in Pacific Ocean
INFORMATION BOARD on walkway just south of Gazebo


This rock was once the outer anchor for a pier built in 1896, but was destroyed in the late 1930s due to a large storm. This rock is a bird sanctuary and is off limits to people.

9. GAZEBO 
This Laguna Beach landmark overlooks the vast Pacific Ocean. It was connected to Bird Rock by a pier that was destroyed in the late 1930s. This is a popular spot to get married with a permit through the city costing $342.

10. BENCH AT THE LAGUNA ART MUSEUM
307 Cliff Dr.
This museum, founded in 1918, is one of the oldest in California. The colorful bench in front was created by local artist Marlo Bartels.

​BONUS FIND
The snail is attached to the side of the Laguna Art Museum building, near the ground, to the left of the bench if you are looking at the bench. The snail was created by artist Tim Shockley

11. BOY AND DOG statue
This statue was created in 1933 and is the oldest piece in the Laguna Beach public art collection.

12. DEER WARRIOR
​The artist says this "Deer Warrior's" role is to protect and to confront a painful past giving the community the freedom to face a fearless future.

14.  "Laguna Locals" by Mike Tauber
These permanent murals were done to showcase four distinct areas of town. They are in the windows of Whole Foods Market. Mike was named, "Artist of the Year" by the Laguna Beach Arts Alliance in 2011.

15. "The Watermen's Wall"
Randy Morgan, the artist, wanted to tell the story of what the true waterman is, and of our ocean culture in Laguna Beach.  This piece features watermen - surfers, skim boarders, stand-up paddle boarders, lifeguards and more -- both past and present. Some are famous like Mike Parsons, while others are local legends.

16. THE VISITOR'S CENTER
Open 10am-5pm, go in and ask the concierge for a free Laguna Beach postcard. Catmosphere is in the same building. Check out Orange County's first cat cafe and lounge. It's a foster home for cats just waiting to be adopted.

17. "ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL DAY IN PARADISE" 
The artist of this bench in front of the public library explained,  "The title and inspiration for this piece comes from the desire to bring joy, perhaps a smile, a moment of abandonment to the lighter side of life. It is a contribution to an ever happier life in Laguna."

18. Pepper Tree Lane

This structure was built around the old pepper tree you find inside the walkway.
