Ok folks, we have a busy day here in Laguna Beach! Get to Heisler Park at 11:00 AM for the dedication of the "Tide Pool Paddleboard" bench (Cliff and Jasmine). You can meet metal sculptor Larry Gill and glassblower Gavin Heath and say hi to Mayor Kelly Boyd. Then you've got to go to "Laguna Beach Uncorked!" at the Festival of the Arts grounds for some tasty wines. Google each for more information. Art and wine Saturday - best day ever?

Last night was First Thursday Art Walk. That means it is the first Thursday of the month and all galleries and museums in town are open late serving wine! The Laguna Art Museum had performances by the Laguna Dance Festival along with an artist lecture. I'll be back at the museum next Thursday for a music performance of violinist Javier Orman (Montevideo, Uruguay) and guitarist Tom Farrell (Chicago, Illinois). Check out www.lagunaartmuseum.org for more information. Hope to see you next Thursday!
Check out this flash mob at Main Beach. Love it!
Here are some interesting factoids I learned last night at the Friends of Laguna Architecture lecture on this house:
- John Lautner architect - Clear drinking glasses throughout the triangle ceilings to create light coming in - Landscape outside creeps inside - Sink in bedroom is clear glass with no visable plumbing - Architect doesn't want a focal point when encountering; wants you to notice everything at once Fun facts about owner, Jim Goldstein: - mulit-millionaire but won't tell anyone how he made his money - NBA "superfan" going to over 100 NBA games a year, sitting courtside - wears flamboyant attire, mostly tight leather/snakeskin pants and a hat Check out this famous painting by Ivan Albright with Main Beach in the background: "Seaman: Heavy the Oar to Him Who is Tired, Heavy the Coat, Heavy the Sea". Ivan painted this in 1929, oil on canvas, Magic Realism style. So glad he visited Laguna Beach!
Were you wondering what streets exactly are included in our HIP District (Historic and Interesting Places)? This sign from the Patriots Day Parade says it all. This unique business district includes 26 art galleries, 17 restaurants, coffee shops, apparel stores and one exceptional tour from Laguna Beach Walks! Come on my Hip District Tour if you want to have some fun exploring this area of town.
One of my favorite entries in the Patriot's Day Parade this year was the decorated Sawdust Festival El Camino. It represented all that I love about the Sawdust: art, clothes, jewelry, music. Maybe next year they can get some artists to do some live glass blowing in the back of the car?
Wow! Have you seen the impressive "Living Wall" that was just installed on the exterior of Hotel Seven4One here in Laguna Beach? Here are some cool benefits of a living wall:
- Aesthetics - it's a work of art! - Air Quality - purifies the air - Energy Savings - cuts electricity bill - Sustainability - makes our world greener - Acoustics - dampens noise pollution - Increases property value - marketable green feature - Health and Wellness - reduces stress and enhances wellbeing Thank you to all of those who came out to the Laguna Gallery of Contemporary Art last night to celebrate the one year anniversary of Laguna Beach Walks. It was so fun to be surround by amazing art while we got to know exhibiting artists, Ellie Benfatti and Jim Marshall. I have the best friends, family and tour guests ever!
