All of my favorite things in a dining experience came together last night at The Ranch: Live music (thanks Felisha), outdoor dining overlooking the spectacular 9th hole, golf games (chipping glow-in-the-dark balls into glowing rings for prizes), and happy hour food and drinks til 8pm. My favorite menu items are the nachos, pork sliders, cheese plate, and the chicken quesadillas. Legend has it the original Pottery Shack owner, Roy Childs, liked to hunt so he had these larger-than-life-sized animals made and displayed amongst the pottery. Roy's wife finally had enough of these animals taking up her selling space so she told Roy to get rid of them. Instead of throwing them out, Roy found the bear, elk, and ram a new home on the roof. Also, notice the old potter working on the front of the building. Almost every day you will see Michael waving to those passing by Sapphire Restaurant. This historic location housed the original Pottery Shack for nearly 60 years. Back in 2006, local artist, Mike Tauber, refurbished the greeter statue. Mike also created the murals on the Whole Foods windows and helped with the tiled mural on the Water District building. Those are #5 and #41 respectively on my free Downtown Walk. One last thing...check out the red hot pokers blooming.
