Laguna Friends of Architecture presents Fred Briggs

Everyone is welcome to attend tonight's Laguna Friends of Architecture meeting at LCAD. Horst Noppenberger, one of today’s top architects, will present the work of Fred Briggs, who was one of the early, pioneering, modern architects in Southern California. I first met Fred Briggs in 1981 after purchasing a bluff top lot in Capistrano Beach now known as 26411 Palisade Dr. I had introduced myself to him because I had seen his work on the Jeffries home in Laguna Beach which is the large concret home on Coast highway with the tennis court over the garage. He took me on a tour of the home and I loved it and immediately hired him to design my home on Palisades Dr.
He first came back to me with a central court yard theme design and I was shocked that he was presenting to me a design which took zero advantage of the 270 degree view looking directly off the bluff top lot. I got him to modify his design and then I meticuosly redesigned every inch of the home myself to come up with the home as it stands today. Fred's draftsmen did a gtreat job with the working drawings and the engineers I hired took care of the structural composition.
All I can say is that in the end Fred was very proud of my work but in reality he had very little to do with the outcome of the home. It just would have never happened if left to him alone.

There are discussions to tear down Fred's Library for a parking structure in Laguna. I created work for the Jeffries house. Laguna locals (current residents) FB has put up a petition. Might you please comment on the page how ridiculous the idea is ?
