The Eagle Has Landed???

The eagle has landed?

I was racking my brain trying to think of where to start my 2020 New Year's Resolution of walking every street in Laguna Beach. What street says new, beginning, or onset? Hmmmmm. Got it! First Street or First Avenue! Of course! Well, no.

I got my handy dandy Surterre map out looking for 1st St./Ave. Everyone in town knows 3rd St. in downtown. It's like a Disneyland rollercoaster ride, going straight down at a 30% grade. From there I saw 2nd street, but then the next street is Glenneyre. Dead end.

My next effort was geared toward south Laguna. For a good workout periodically, I like to head over to 1000 Steps which is on 9th Ave. So looking on my map, I see all the single digit streets through 2nd Ave. Then the map shows Eagle Rock Way. Wait What? Were did 1st Ave. go? Doesn't every city have a 1st Ave./St? Right there is a mystery and I am dedicating my first walk of 2020 getting to the bottom of this issue!

Right away after starting my walk, I see a gal walking her dog and I ask her what happened to 1st Avenue? She said about 15 years ago a resident decided to change the name because he thought Eagle Rock Way sounded better. If anyone has any more information on the street name change, please let me know.
